TIPS ON HOW TO START SMALL
SCORE counselor J.B. Day's pointers on succeeding as a startup with little money:
• Forget the luxury of falling ill or taking a vacation. A nascent small business is like a baby, and you must attend to its every need.
• Find a niche and fill it so you can set yourself apart.
• Prepare a thorough business plan. It's not just for investors, it's for you. Revise your plan often based on how you are doing.
• Know your competition better than they know themselves so their weakness become your strengths and their strengths are your strengths.
• Even if you are small, line up sufficient financing. There are creative ways to find it, such as getting financing from your merchandise supplier.
