On August 5, 2005, Brian Lindeen – a new Client - visited our office in Houston, TX (8701 S. Gessner Rd.). He was in a real hurry to start a business with his father - detailing reinforcing rod from prints submitted by contractors or the steel rod manufacturers. Detailing entails receiving the prints via e-mail or fax and then using a computer CAD system to design the various sizes and shapes required to support the size of the structure.

I started working with Brian that day, concentrating on the financial section of his Business Plan. A week later, on August 12, I set up a meeting with a Frost Bank representative at our Gessner office to review the Client’s Business Plan. After review, and approval, Brian submitted an application to the Frost Bank for the funds needed to start the family business. However, the Client’s father, being somewhat impatient and not willing to wait for the loan process to work its way through the system, decided to go with a home equity loan and get the business started sooner.

The Lindeen father and son team proceeded to form a Limited Liability Company (LLC) under the name of Big G Express. They purchased the necessary computer hardware and software and opened for business on October 1, 2005. They started with three (3) employees - Brian, his father and one other employee - each quitting their jobs to be a part of the new enterprise. As of February 1, 2007 there are now a total of 5 employees, with plans to hire 2 more by June.

The company address is as follows:

Personal Note: Both Lindeens are descendants of the Choctaw Indian Tribe and are members thereof.

As a SCORE Counselor, I believe my greatest contribution in helping the Lindeens get their business up and running was to stress the need for quick turnover of their accounts receivables. To date they have been successful in abiding by this principle – with customers paying within 10 to 15 days foregoing the need for cash discount terms to encourage early payment.
